Description

Burgess Hill, Sussex born right-arm fast-medium bowler Reginald Hollingsworth captained his school to victory in the East Sussex League in 1920 and was taken on to the Sussex staff at 16. Meanwhile he played for Haywards Heath and made his debut for Sussex in 1925, gaining his County cap in 1927. He once took the wickets of Herbert Sutcliffe and Percy Holmes for only 35 runs, but, being of a similar pace to Maurice Tate but with less speed off the pitch, he could not hold his place in the side, and played his last match for Sussex in 1930.

In 1931 Holhngdale decided to make the move to Greenock, for whom he scored 4,061 runs and took 574 wickets. During this period he played for Scotland against South Africa, when he captured 5 wickets for 35 runs. In 1938 he was persuaded to join Grange, the senior Scottish club, and while with them he won his second Scottish cap against Yorkshire.

In 79 first class matches he scored one fifty with the bat as a useful tail ender, making 57, averaging 13.38. He took 84 wickets at 31.47 apiece, with a best performance of 5-23, one of two five wicket hauls. He also took 38 catches in first class play.
