Description

York, near New Hanover, Natal born slow right-arm off-spin bowler Sivert Samuelson made his first class debut for Natal in 1908-09 and was selected for South Africa towards the end of the following season when he played against England at Cape Town in March 1910, where he went wicketless  as England scored 417, with Jack Hobbs making 187, after having taken five M.C.C. tourist wickets in an innings in his third first class game, which won him selection.  Batting No. 11, he scored 15 and 7 as England won by 9 wickets.

The following season he was devastating for Natal in the Currie Cup with 13-wicket hauls against Griqualand West and Orange Free State, ending the summer with 41 wickets at 13.87. But he then played only a couple more games the following season, and his only other first class game of his career was against M.C.C. more than a decade later in 1922-23.

In 13 first class matches he averaged 12.06 with the bat with a highest score of 39, and took 57 wickets at 21.05 apiece with a best return of 8-40, with two matches in which he took ten or more wickets and 7 five wicket hauls.
