Description

Stockton, New South Wales born right-hand batsman and legbreak and googly bowler Ray Robinson made his debut in State cricket for New South Wales in 1934-35, and after some excellent batting scores he was selected for his only Test match for Australia when he played against Gubby Allen’s England at Brisbane in December 1936 in Australia’s First Test defeat. He wasn’t selected again having done little in the match in which he scored only 5 runs and wasn’t called upon to bowl. He later also played first class cricket for South Australia and Otago, making his final first class appearance in 1948-49. In 46 first class matches either side of the Second World War he scored 2,441 runs at an average of 31.70 with 4 centuries and 13 half centuries, with a highest score of 163. With his bowling he took 44 wickets at 37.59 apiece with a best return of 4-45, and he also held 24 catches in first class play.
