Description

Harrismith, Orange Free State born right-hand batsman had a lengthy career in South African domestic cricket making his first class debut for Orange Free State in the 1906-07 season. He played in 42 first class matches with 1926-27 being his final season, making 5 centuries and 11 half centuries with an average of 33.27 from an aggregate of 2,030 runs scored, with a highest score of 160 not out. He also played Currie Cup cricket for Transvaal, and was selected once by South Africa playing against Australia at Johannesburg in November 1921, when he made scores of 6 and 29 in a drawn match. He also took 24 wickets at 27.83 apiece as an occasional bowler with a best return of 4-27 although he wasn’t used as a bowler on his Test appearance.

His nephew Johnny Lindsay played one Test match for South Africa in 1947, and his son Denis played 19 Tests for South Africa in the 1960’s, both were wicket-keepers.
