Description

Worthing, Sussex born left-handed batsman and left-arm fast-medium bowler Francis Gresson was educated at Winchester College and Oriel College, Oxford, where he played cricket for the University in all three seasons between 1887 and 1889, winning his Blue each year. He also played for Sussex but his appearances were limited by his job as a schoolmaster and he played no county cricket between 1890 and 1899, with his last appearance coming in 1901. In 47 first class matches he scored 1,241 runs at an average of 16.54 with a highest score of 114, his only first class century, and with his bowling he took 30 wickets at 27.96 apiece with a best performance of 5-50, his only five wicket haul. He also held 23 catches in first class play.

Vintage Cricketers was founded in July 2019. There may be more photographs of this cricketer in the Vintage Cricketers library, which are due to be loaded in due course. In the meantime, please send a message to us using the contact form at the bottom left of this page and we can arrange to prepare and publish all images of this cricketer if you have a particular interest in him.
