Northampton born Edwin “Ned” FreemanĀ appeared in 16 first class matches as a right-handed batsman who bowled right arm medium pace between 1908 and 1920. He had a high score of 30 with the bat at an average of 6.33, and took 6 wickets with a best performance of 3-62.

Better known as a footballer, playing as a winger, Freeman joined hometown Southern League club Northampton Town c.1906 and was a member of their Southern League Championship winning team in 1908-09. He played against Football League Champions Newcastle United as Northampton Town were beaten 2-0 in the 1909 FA Charity Shield. He played both sides of the First World War for The Cobblers and indeed his final season was Northampton’s inaugural Football League campaign, in which he made 28 appearances, scoring twice. This included Freeman playing in Northampton’s first ever League game at Grimsby Town in August 1920.
